Belgium 4th Country For Foreign Investment

According to a recent report by UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development),

foreign direct investment in Belgium rose by more than 50% from 2009 to almost $62 billion in 2010.

Foreign direct investment worldwide increased by 5%, so Belgium definitely outpaced the global trend.

Belgium is ranked as the fourth most attractive country for foreign direct investment, after the United States ($228 billion), China ($106 billion) and Hong Kong ($69 billion).

Belgium was also 10th in the world ranking for outgoing direct investment ($38 billion).

BELGIUM IS ONE OF THE BEST COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD

FOR CLINICAL STUDIES

More than 500 clinical studies are carried out in Belgium every year.

The country is therefore considered one of the best countries in the world for clinical studies.

In 2007, Belgium was considered the best country in the world for academic research and it notched up the highest number of clinical studies per head of population, states the non-profit organisation BeCRO, which supports this type of research. Likewise, Belgium records the highest number of medicines under development per head of population, states the president of BeCRO Philippe Van der Hofstadt.

This favourable position in relation to clinical studies can be attributed in particular to the achievements of its scientific personnel and the shorter approval period for studies than in other countries.

The low cost linked to these studies also plays an important role. In fact, Belgium is one of the least expensive countries for clinical trials. “Only Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic are rated higher in this respect” explains Philippe Van der Hofstadt.
